1. Many translation agencies charge you by the number of words in the finished translation not the number of words in the document you submit. 2. Translation companies usually have to charge VAT on translations so make sure you check the price which the translation agency is quoting includes VAT or you might get a shock.

3. Translation companies often use very inexperienced translators to do private work as they view private translations as less important than business translations so always insist your chosen translation company use a fully qualified and experienced translator for your translation.

4. Are you sure it is a translator you need or could your really need an interpreter? The difference is translators work with documents and interpreters work with spoken words. If you need someone to accompany you to, say, a doctors appointment or immigration hearing, what you actually need is an interpreter and not an translator.
