We are interested in hearing from people with skills in all business languages and particularly keen on retaining specialists in languages from the Far East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai) and emerging East European (Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Russian Slovak) markets.
That depends which team you wish to join. We offer two classes of translations, Business Critical Translations and Standard Business Translations and assign our translators to separate teams accordingly. Please remember to specify which team you with to join when applying. Qualifications for each team are described below.

Standard Business & Business Critical Translation team: You will need a minimum of 5 years relevant commercial experience. Please do not apply to join the team unless you meet this requirement. Ideally we'd also like you to belong to the Institute of Translators and Interpreters or other internationally recognised professional body.

First Draft Translation team: You will need a minimum of 2 years relevant commercial experience. Please do not apply to join the First Draft Translation team unless you meet this requirement.

London Translations do not use inexperienced translators or interpreters therefore you will need to demonstrate a successful track record to be considered. If you are just starting out on your career as a translator or interpreter, we wish you luck and hope that you will contact us again when you have gained the required experience.

Please see our Freelancer Guide for advice as to how to get established. If you need further information, please feel free to drop us a line or give us a call. We'll do all we can to help you but we cannot offer you work. Please DO NOT apply.

No.

No, although all translators are required to complete a short test piece (You will be paid for this work). Interpreters will be interviewed and references sought.

Phone: Being responsive is what it's all about. We must be able to contact you easily by telephone during working hours (and sometimes outside working hours as well).

Internet connected computer: Translators must have access to either an IBM compatible personal computer and/or an Apple Mac system. As a minimum, we ask that you have an email address, know how to send and receive attachments, and are capable of producing documents in Microsoft Word for Windows format. Access to other software packages (especially Microsoft Office) is a definite advantage.

Fax: Many clients prefer to submit documents via fax. For this reason it is important that you have access to a fax machine for both sending and receiving purposes.
London Translations will pay you by cheque in Sterling within 15 days of receipt of your invoice. We pay you even if our client does not pay us. We pride ourselves on our payment record and are members of the Better Payment Practice Group.
